Why I Don't Trust "Things"

"Kids in Congo were being sent down mines to die so that kids in Europe and America could kill imaginary aliens in their living rooms," said Ex-British Parliament Member Oona King.

A lot of people tend to think certain "things" are safe because why would the government let use and/or consume things that were unsafe? Long story short.. sometimes it takes 5, 10, 20 years for the negative impacts of certain things to become apparent. Case in point... BPA in plastic baby bottles, the amount of toys that contain lead paint, the cancer causing effects of artificial sweeteners, the risks of giving babies cold medicine. The list goes on but my point is, just because they sell it doesn't mean it is safe. It just means no one has proven how unsafe it is, YET.

Today this caught my eye when I went to check my Yahoo email: At what cost? A metal used in Sony’s Playstation 2 and similar devices has resulted in drastic consequences. Click for the article. So the article wasn't along the lines I first thought (the metal isn't directly harmful to the PS2 players) but it just had me thinking along the same lines of just because they sell it doesn't mean its safe or a "good idea" to use it and it may take any number of years to figure out what the real consequences of a particular product may be.
